About Asta
Asta Dorsett is an artist and
long arm quilter born and raised in Iceland – the land of ice and fire. She left
her homeland to marry her husband Dave, whom she met while he was stationed near
her home town.
She discovered her passion for quilting in Alaska where her skills and artistry
developed quickly. After years of studying traditional quilting methods, she and
her family moved to the warmth of Arizona, where the southwestern quilting truly
inspired her. In Tucson she discovered an immediate love for long arm quilting
and studied on a Gammill Classic Plus with a talented artist, Barbara Angerhofer.
She learned not only to accurately follow patterns, but how to draw out the
beauty of each quilt with her free motion stitching.
She says the quilts literally speak to her, and because of this, she is able
infuse each of her customers quilt tops with a sense of passion and pride that
many quilters reserve only for quilting their own work. She credits her eclectic
and flexible style to her various travels throughout Europe and the places she
has lived since coming to America. Her greatest joy is bringing out the
character in every quilt with each carefully placed stitch and motif. Through
this detailed and dedicated practice of her craft she has established herself as
an incredible artist and highly sought after long arm quilter.
Asta currently lives in Florida with her husband Dave and two children. She
looks forward to the next chapter in her quilting journey and working with
customers and other quilters for many years to come! |
